HEALING THROUGH LISTENING: SIDEWALK TALK BUS TOUR BRINGS

RADICAL COMMUNITY CONNECTION TO DELMAR BOULEVARD ON MAY 6

ST. LOUIS, MO — In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Sidewalk Talk Bus Tour will make a powerful stop in St. Louis on May 6, 2025, from 4–7 PM, transforming Delmar Boulevard near Ruth Porter Mall into a healing hub for deep listening, heart-centered conversations, and mental health support.

Sidewalk Talk, a global nonprofit founded by therapists, has brought its listening movement to 53 cities across 14 countries, St. Louis will be the 54th city.  With more than 3,200 trained volunteers worldwide, the movement proves that listening is healing — it’s community medicine.

In collaboration with local partners — St. Louis Mental Health Board, The Black Healers Collective, I Define ME Movement, City of St. Louis Department of Health, and Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers — this event will center around the power of being heard.

“When we’re deeply heard, we remember we matter,” says the Sidewalk Talk team. “We believe listening can heal a divided city — starting right on Delmar Boulevard.”

WHAT TO EXPECT ON MAY 6

  • Heart-Centered Listening Booths: Trained volunteers will offer free, public listening sessions.
  • Digital Story Collection: Attendees can anonymously or publicly share responses to “How do you care for your community?”
  • Mental & Social Health Resources: Partners will distribute info on no/low-cost community services.
  • Experience JOY: Teens & Youth can experience the I Define ME Wellness Mobile, meet our JOY Mascot, and take the I Define ME wellness pledge.
  • St. Louis Chapter Launch: The Black Healers Collective will lead efforts to bring Sidewalk Talk to the STL metro area long-term.

WHY THIS MATTERS

In a time of social disconnection, polarization, and mental health crises, Sidewalk Talk’s mission is both radical and necessary: bringing face-to-face human connection into public spaces.

Research shows:

  • Listening reduces loneliness and prejudice
  • Increases well-being and sense of belonging
  • Builds bridges across social, racial, and ideological divides

This event is an invitation to experience how one conversation can change a life — and a city.
