Insurance Acceptance
The Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (PHC) is committed to providing comprehensive primary health care to impoverished, uninsured populations in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
This is a critically important mission when you consider that:
Uninsured women who develop breast cancer are twice as likely to die than women with insurance. Uninsured men with colon cancer are 50 percent more likely to be diagnosed at a late state. Uninsured children are 70 percent more likely not to receive medical care for common conditions such as ear infections.
Those are just a few of the horrifying facts of life for the uninsured.
Patients without insurance may qualify for a partial or even complete discount for medical services. To qualify for our sliding fee adjustment, patients should bring the following to their first Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (PHC) appointment:
Current proof of income (one of the following):
- »2 recent check stubs
- »Last year’s tax return
- »A letter from the Division of Employment (unemployment statement)
- »Current W-2 forms
Utility bill for address verification
$32.00*
*The fee increases to $75.00 if you do not bring proof of income
After the visit, patients should expect to receive a bill for the remaining balance (if applicable).
Accepted Insurance Companies
The Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (PHC) accepts four of the nation’s largest insurance organizations — Blue Cross and Blue Shield, HealthLink, Medicare, and UnitedHealthcare — and several other insurance companies and health management organizations.
If you have Medicare Part B:
You are responsible for a $100 deductible and 20% co-payment. If you have supplemental insurance, please bring that card with you.
If you have Medicaid or Private Insurance:
Please bring a copy of your current card and any co-payment amount. If you had a break in coverage, please bring the new card with you.

Sliding Fee Information
The Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (PHC) offers discounted healthcare services on a sliding fee scale. The amount of the discount is based on your family size and income, and can be fully discounted if you fall below 100% of the federal poverty guideline. There is a minimum fee of $32 for medical, and $50 for dental and specialty services.
PHC accepts most major insurance cards.
